Welcome to our new website!

To make our website easier to use and more effective, we've implemented some changed around the site!

1) On the top right hand corner of any news entry, you'll see three icons!

PDF - Lets you view a PDF copy of the news item.

Print - Lets you easily Print the news item.

Email - Lets you easily email the news item to a friend.

2) Along the left hand side of the pages, you'll see a new calendar, as well as an updated list of upcoming events!

3) When you click on an event in the calendar mode. Look again at the top right, there should be a little button that looks like a calendar.

This will download an 'ical' file to your computer, open it to put the event in your Calendaring software. (Outlook & iCal, as well as many others)

4) On the left hand side, you will see a "Archived News Items" link. If you're looking for a news item that was on the site, but has 'disappeared', you'll be able to find it in there!

We hope you enjoy the new changes to the website. As always, if you have any suggestions, comments, compliments or concerns, feel free to send me an email.

Thanks,

1) If I can’t attend meetings, can I still participate? How?
Yes you can participate even if you can’t attend meetings. There are many “jobs” behind the scenes, such as researching information on the phone or computer.

2) I live in Gold Bar and have seldom or never used the hall. Why should I care about our community hall, what are the benefits?
Every community needs a “heart” and that is the community hall, a central gathering place for community events and activities for adults and children alike. These create a sense of belonging and connecting with one’s neighbors. Just imagine our community without the benefits of providing a facility for events, meetings, activities, and programs. The consequences would weaken our strength, usefulness, and value as a community. We would be forced to rely on other communities.

3) What will it cost to rent the new hall?
We don’t yet know what the rental rates will be. It is an area we need to research once we have a solid design and budget. Community members will be offered discounted rates with proof of current community league membership. And with more multi-use spaces, there will be a variety of room sizes and rates available.

4) What are our options if we don’t raise enough money?
1) Continue repairing the current hall and hope to extend it’s life for a few more years before having to condemn the building; 2) renovate the current hall as much as we can with the funds already raised; 3) borrow money from the bank; (4) build a very nice park, but no hall.

5) I have heard that you want to build the hall “eco-friendly”. What do you mean?
With energy prices going up, the best way to continue operating the hall as efficiently as possible within our budget is to apply green “best practices”. These practices apply to the construction in terms of insulation, windows, doors, entryways, mechanical systems, lighting, appliances, etc. Features such as solar energy are out of reach financially at this time, but in future a retro-fit might be possible.

6) What kind of programs/activities are you planning to have in the new hall?
We would like to offer a wide range of programs in response to community members’ needs. We will continue to provide the activities that currently take place, and encourage residents to present new ideas. The possibilities are endless. Art, exercise, cooking classes, educational seminars, etc are just some!

7) Will there be audio visual equipment in the new hall?
At this time there is no plan to install audio visual equipment however hall users may bring in their own.

8) I am concerned about vandalism against the new hall. How does the design deal with this issue?
Assuming that the new hall may be susceptible to such activity, care will be taken in choosing vandalism-resistant finishing materials. Also, careful placement of windows, security lighting and entry system will be important factors.

9) I live very close to the hall and in summer the renters can get very noisy. How are you addressing this with the new hall?
Unfortunately there is no way to prevent noise reaching residents as the hall is adjacent to a number of homes. However, minimizing the noise is being addressed in the new design.

10) Will there be more parking spaces?
No added parking spaces will be created.

11) What if the school closes?
In the event there is school closure the community league will continue to operate, and the building project will proceed. If there is a need to serve the community with programs no longer offered at the school, these will be considered.

12) What is the emergency preparedness program that I have heard you are planning?
We are researching the possibility of the new hall being a place residents can seek shelter and/or information should an emergency occur. This emergency preparedness would likely operate on a small scale.

13) Is there a solid budget for how much the hall is going to cost to build?
We are getting closer to confirming the design, and therefore a final budget. The building will cost somewhere between $2 and $2.5 million. This does not include furnishings, landscaping, etc.

14) How will the construction of the new hall affect the field north of the current hall, and the hockey rink?
Construction will not require moving the hockey rink however the green space directly north of the hall will cease to exist. Once construction is completed we hope that community members will form a new committee to raise funds for moving the hockey rink and developing new green space.

15) During demolition will you be salvaging/recycling some of the hall materials, and how can I get in on this?
We are planning to salvage some materials. More information will be provided as the demolition approaches.

16) I have donated money to the hall. How will my name appear on the “donor wall”?
We have not yet designed the donor wall. It will likely be divided into sections according to the donation categories: bronze, silver, gold, diamond, and platinum.
Community members are needed to head up the donor wall design project.
